5 Best Online Backups for Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2

After Apple, Samsung is number #2 smartphone manufacturer. Among all Android phones, Samsung’s phones are the best, and in fact, millions of people are using them.

With such a huge market share, Samsung has a few flagship models of their smartphones. Main flagship models come from Galaxy line – Galaxy S and Note phones are popular, so as Nexus line which are also called Google Nexus phones. With huge screen, amazing performance, and pretty unique features that are exclusive to Samsung phones, they are making a killing in the market.

One good thing about Android phones is their flexibility with what apps can do. It allows a lot of things that Apple will never allow third party app developers to do on iOS. Online backup is one of them. While you can only rely on iCloud for backups with iOS, and other apps can do limited backups like contacts and photos, with Android, there are plenty of good apps and services that will take care of your backup needs.

We have published an article about best backup apps for Android phones here a few months ago. But now that so many great backup apps are out, we feel a need to refresh the list, especially those created for Samsung’s flagship models. Check them out after the break.

We know that the TL;DR summary table is not enough for you. So head on below to read our brief review on each of them.

Winner – MyPCBackup – From $4.95

mypcbackupandroid

MyBackup Pro is a reliable app for your Android backup. It is quite easy to use (we think the interface isn’t that great to look at, but functionally it’s good), and you can follow its step by step wizard to do scheduled backup to its own servers or even to your own SD card if you just want to switch phones (don’t we all?). Heck, you can even just buy an extra SD card and backup to it for an extra local backup. Right now, you can use it to backup contacts, call log, SMS messages, MMS messages, Calendar, attachments, alarms, dictionary, APNs, system settings, home screens (if you are using HTC Sense UI, it will back that up too, so rejoice!), music playlists, app settings, and more if you would like. If you have rooted your phone, you can also backup your APKs+data as well as market links. There is a “30 days trial version” in Google Play market, and it will cost $4.99 to purchase.

We actually like MyBackup Pro for its easy to use interface, although not very aesthetically pleasing, and accuracy for backup and restore function. Even if you don’t have a non-rooted phone, it will work well. But on rooted phones, your options to backup will be a lot more.

It’s also worth thinking about purchasing MyPCBackup for your machine or tablet, with the monthly subscription, and then you will get the app for free. That way you can back up all of your devices at once, from only $3.96 per month. You also get 1GB free space just for downloading the app, as a special offer.

2. SOS Online Backup – From $9.99

SOS-Online-Backup-Logo

SOS Online Backup continues to wow us again and again. We are already pretty amazed at their online backup services for computers, and now this – online backup service for Android and iPhones. How cool is that? You can backup apps, pictures, music, and videos onto its online cloud storage. All data will be encrypted on the client-side before leaving your phone, plus you can also do backup to SD cards or internal storage as well. Plus, you can access all files you have backed up to in the app so you don’t have to worry about not having access to those files. Restoration is pretty easy too. What we love the most is its app interface. Very easy to use and nothing complicated. When you purchase it through Google Play Store, it will cost you $4.95 per year for 15GB of storage. Yup, that’s really a sweet deal. If you pay $79.95 a year, then you will get 50GB + ability to backup your computers too. But let’s face it, who want to backup 50GB from their phone? 15GB is actually quite plenty so that will do. The pricing difference is huge too. Now only if Apple would allow such awesome backup to run on iOS!

3. SavvisDirect Secure Online Backup – From $4.99

SavvisDirect Secure Online Backup is a free app but you will have to pay for online storage. The interface is really simple but sophisticated, and you have the options to either backup to the cloud or to SD card. While you may not have heard of SavvisDirect, it is in fact from Savvis and CenturyLink, an industry leader and Gartner’s Magic Quadrant leader in outsourced IT and cloud solutions for large businesses. If you are a corporate user, then you might already be familiar with Savvis brand name. The pricing is very fair at $4.99 per use rper month for 10GB of storage for Android mobile backup solution. There are other backup plans for computers too and you might want to take a look at them. What we really like is the straightforward interface, however browsing the files you have backed up can be sometimes a bit sluggish. We didn’t face any other major issues though, but at the same price, we would prefer much better SOS Online Backup. Plus, we only have to pay yearly and get 15GB with SOS.

4. iDrive – From Free

ids_logo_idrive

iDrive is another company that keeps surprising us. Since the time we last reviewed about the, iDrive has revamped its website and services significantly. Now offering free plan for starters, and only charge $49.50 per year for 150GB storage plan, iDrive is establishing itself as a new leader in the online backup industry. iDrive allows you to backup your images, videos, contacts and application settings directly onto the cloud storage it comes with. 5GB is already plenty. While it doesn’t really offer any function to backup to your SD card, you will soon forget that you even have SD card to backup to. There are two versions of iDrive app on Google Play Store, one is current version, and one is Legacy version. So make sure you get the current version since legacy version doesn’t work as good as current version. We will be revisiting iDrive and doing a new review soon so stay tune.

5. Titanium Backup Pro Key Root – $4.94

Titanium Backup is not for the faint of heart since it is very powerful and allow so many things to do. In fact, if you are not a power user and afraid to tweak things around, you shouldn’t really use Titanium Backup Pro at all. However, if you are interested in this kind of uber flexibility, read on. Not only it lets you backup everything on your phone, but it also makes restoration totally easy. You can backup every kind of data you imagine on your phone, and backup individual apps without closing them. Then you can also restore individual apps if you wish, along with SMS/MMS and everything in between. Encryption? Check. Automated scheduling? Check. Backing up to Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, email or a web server? Check. In fact, we have never seen any other Android backup app with as extensive features as this one. Be prepared to have your mind blown. We will be doing a review of Titanium Backup Pro soon, so stay tune.
